Every Care & Resist design is printed direct-to-garment on a blank we chose for how it feels after fifty washes, not how it looks on day one. Here is what each one is made of and how to keep it.

Unisex t-shirts: Comfort Colors 1717

Our unisex tees are the Comfort Colors 1717: 6.1 oz, 100 percent ring-spun cotton, garment-dyed, with double-needle stitching and a relaxed, slightly oversized cut. It is the shirt people mean when they say a tee feels vintage the day it arrives.

Most t-shirts are cut from fabric that was dyed first. Comfort Colors dyes the finished shirt instead, which is why every color has that soft, pigment-washed depth and why no two shirts are exactly alike. The dye is meant to soften with wear; it will not fade to a different color, it just gets better.

Sweatshirts and hoodies: Gildan Heavy Blend

Our crewneck sweatshirt is the Gildan 18000 and our hoodie is the Gildan 18500. Both are Gildan Heavy Blend fleece: 8 oz, 50 percent cotton and 50 percent polyester, with ribbed cuffs and hem that hold their shape. The crewneck has a ribbed collar and a seamless body; the hoodie adds a double-lined hood with a matching drawcord and a front pouch pocket. Both are unisex with the same relaxed cut as the tees.

The cotton-poly blend is the reason these hold up: it resists shrinking and pilling better than all-cotton fleece, and the smooth face takes a clean print. The White color can read slightly off-white; that is the fabric, not a printing flaw.

How the design is printed

Every design, on every garment, is printed direct-to-garment (DTG): the ink goes into the fibers rather than sitting on top as vinyl or a heat-pressed transfer. The print has a soft hand, you can barely feel it, and it does not crack, peel, or bubble. Full-color designs print with every shade intact.

Care instructions, all garments

• Machine wash cold, inside out, with like colors.
• Tumble dry low or hang to dry. Fleece dries best on low; high heat is what shrinks it.
• Do not bleach.
• Do not iron directly on the design. If you must iron, turn the garment inside out.
• Skip fabric softener on the first few washes; it can dull a DTG print.
