Our Story
We believe that science is real, Black Lives Matter, no human is illegal, love is love, women's rights are human rights and kindness matters. We're a husband and wife team that has had ENOUGH. We Care and RESIST. Together with our design, business and production backgrounds, we create awesome clothing for sane people with common sense. Sometimes it feels like you're swimming in a sea of stupidity and cruelty; we feel that way too. We're creating these tees to let your caring and resisting flag fly proudly for other like-minded sane people to see.
How it started
Care & Resist opened in July 2018 with a handful of designs and one line: wear your heart on your shirt. That is still the whole idea. The people who shop here feel strongly about what is happening in this country, and keeping it inside is not an option. They want the people around them to know where they stand, and they want to find the others who stand there too. A shirt does that before anyone says a word. It is how you spot each other in a grocery store, at a game, in a waiting room. More than 3,000 orders later, that is still who we make them for.
What we make
Original slogans on shirts made to be worn for years, not once. Our tees are garment-dyed and heavyweight, our sweatshirts and hoodies are made to hold their shape, and every design is printed to order in the USA, into the fabric rather than pressed on top, so it stays soft and does not crack. Sizes run S to 4XL on tees and to 5XL on fleece, unisex, with a relaxed cut. If a design does not exist yet for the thing you care about, there is a good chance we are designing it.
Who we are
Two people, a wife and a husband, who care a lot about this country and about doing right by other people. We are probably a lot like you. We started this shop because we know what it does to look around a room and see someone else wearing what you believe: you are not crazy, you are not alone, and there are a lot more of us than it feels like some days. Every design here is meant to do that for someone. We are a woman and Latino-owned shop, and more than 540 customers have left reviews, averaging 4.9 stars; they are on our reviews page, and they are the reason the shop is still here.
What we stand for
We believe people deserve to be treated with dignity, all of them, no exceptions. We believe the truth matters, that science is real, that nobody should have to hide who they are or who they love, and that a country is only as good as how it treats the people with the least power in it. None of that should be controversial. Right now it is, and we would rather say it out loud than pretend otherwise.
That is why the shirts exist. Wearing one is a small act, but it is a real one. It tells the person next to you that you see them. It tells the kid watching that there are adults who care. And on the days when the news makes you feel like you are the only one, it reminds you that you are not. We make these for the march and the school board meeting and the polls, but mostly we make them for ordinary days, because that is where most of the caring happens.
