When is Disability Pride Month?

July, every year. It grew out of the first Disability Pride Day in Boston in 1990, the same year the Americans with Disabilities Act was signed on July 26. Many cities hold their parade on a weekend close to that anniversary.

What is Disability Pride Month about?

It marks disability as an identity and a community with a history, not a tragedy to overcome. The month celebrates the people who won the ADA and pushes for the access that law promised and still has not fully delivered.

What does the Disability Pride flag look like?

The current flag, redesigned by Ann Magill in 2021, is a charcoal field with five diagonal stripes in red, gold, white, blue and green. The muted colors and straight stripes were chosen so the flag is safer to view for people with visually triggered conditions.

Can allies wear Disability Pride shirts?

Yes, with a design that fits. "Accessibility Helps Everyone," "Believe Disabled People" and "Nothing About Us Without Us" are written for anyone to wear. First-person designs like "Disabled and Not Sorry" are for disabled people to wear themselves.
