Unisex with a relaxed cut, true to size, S to 4XL. Garment-dyed heavyweight tee.

Autism is not a tragedy. Autism is a way of being, not a catastrophe to be cured, and the autistic adult in the tee sat through a fundraiser gala where the keynote described people like her as a tragedy for their families while she ate the salad. Rejecting the pity narrative and celebrating autistic lives is the sentence. This tee celebrates, at the next gala.

Wear it to the autism acceptance event, the self-advocacy conference, the fundraiser that needs the reminder, the neurodiversity celebration, and the family dinner where a relative says how hard it must be. It is a strong gift for an autistic adult, a neurodiversity-affirming therapist, a parent who rejected the pity, and the friend who left the gala with you.

The tee is a Comfort Colors 1717, garment-dyed in 6.1 oz ring-spun cotton, soft and evenly colored, with a heavier hand than a novelty tee and three lines that read across an autism acceptance celebration. Direct-to-garment. It bonds with the cotton.

Unisex, relaxed, true to size. S through 4XL. Colors: Black, White, Bay, Blossom. Also Chambray, Graphite, Ivory, Banana. It is the gala entry on our neurodiversity page.

Designed and printed to order in the USA. Machine wash cold, inside out, with like colors. Tumble dry low. Do not bleach or iron the design.

Common questions

Is this the same as disability pride not pity? Same rejection, for autism specifically. The adult wearing it heard the word tragedy at a gala about her.

Would an acceptance group order these for the celebration? Groups do. Every shirt is printed to order. Any mix of sizes, one order.

Which color do people pick? Blossom and Bay. Black for the conference.

How does the 1717 fit? True to size, relaxed body. Order your usual.

Wear it to: the IEP meeting, the conference, the family dinner, the waiting room.

Fabric and fit

Comfort Colors 1717: 6.1 oz 100 percent ring-spun cotton, garment-dyed and soft-washed so it feels broken in from the first wear. Relaxed unisex fit, true to size, S to 4XL in eight colors. Double-needle stitching, no side seams, sewn-in label.

Measurements for every size are on the size and fit guide.

Printing and care

Printed to order in the USA, direct to garment: water-based ink goes into the fabric rather than sitting on top, so the print stays soft and does not crack or peel.

Machine wash cold, inside out. Tumble dry low or hang dry. Do not iron the print. More on the fabric and care page.
