Unisex with a relaxed cut, true to size, S to 4XL. Garment-dyed heavyweight tee.

Deaf is not broken. It is not a deficit to be corrected, a tragedy to be pitied or a problem waiting on a cure, and the Deaf adult in the tee has a language, a community and a way of moving through the world that works perfectly well when the world bothers to meet it. This tee is not asking to be fixed.

Wear it to the Deaf community event, the ASL class, the audiology appointment where the cure conversation starts, the school for the Deaf, and the family dinner where a relative asks about the implant again. It is a strong gift for a Deaf friend, an ASL interpreter, a Deaf studies student, and the hearing friend who learned to sign.

The tee is a Comfort Colors 1717, garment-dyed in 6.1 oz ring-spun cotton, soft and evenly colored, with a heavier hand than a novelty tee and three lines that read across a Deaf community event. Direct-to-garment. It bonds with the cotton.

Unisex, relaxed, true to size. S through 4XL. Colors: Black, White, Bay, Blossom. Also Chambray, Graphite, Ivory, Banana. It is the Deaf pride entry on our disability rights page.

Designed and printed to order in the USA. Machine wash cold, inside out, with like colors. Tumble dry low. Do not bleach or iron the design.

Common questions

Is this shirt against cochlear implants? It is against the word broken. Implants are a personal choice; the tee is about the framing.

Would a Deaf organization order these? Organizations do, for the event. Every shirt is printed to order. Any mix of sizes, one order.

Which color do people pick? Black and White. Bay for the event.

How does the 1717 fit? True to size, relaxed body. Order your usual.

Wear it to: the hearing, the clinic, Disability Pride Month in July, the parking lot where someone took your spot.

Fabric and fit

Comfort Colors 1717: 6.1 oz 100 percent ring-spun cotton, garment-dyed and soft-washed so it feels broken in from the first wear. Relaxed unisex fit, true to size, S to 4XL in eight colors. Double-needle stitching, no side seams, sewn-in label.

Measurements for every size are on the size and fit guide.

Printing and care

Printed to order in the USA, direct to garment: water-based ink goes into the fabric rather than sitting on top, so the print stays soft and does not crack or peel.

Machine wash cold, inside out. Tumble dry low or hang dry. Do not iron the print. More on the fabric and care page.

Shipping and returns

Every shirt is made when you order it and ships from the USA. Current production and delivery times, and how returns work, are on the shipping and returns page. Ordering for a group? See group and bulk orders.
