Unisex with a relaxed cut, true to size, S to 4XL. Garment-dyed heavyweight tee.

Independence includes help. The version people applaud is the one where you do everything alone, which is not how anybody lives, and it quietly tells the disabled adult in the tee that needing an aide, a ride or a hand is a failed attempt at a real life. Support is not the opposite of independence. This tee counts the help as part of it.

Wear it to the independent living center, the personal care attendant hiring day, the disability pride parade, the occupational therapy appointment, and the family dinner where a relative applauds someone for doing it alone. It is a strong gift for a disabled adult, a personal care attendant, an occupational therapist, and the friend who gives the ride.

The tee is a Comfort Colors 1717, garment-dyed in 6.1 oz ring-spun cotton, soft and evenly colored, with a heavier hand than a novelty tee and three lines that read across an independent living center lobby. Direct-to-garment. It bonds with the cotton.

Unisex, relaxed, true to size. S through 4XL. Colors: Black, White, Bay, Blossom. Also Chambray, Graphite, Ivory, Banana. It is the aide-and-ride entry on our disability rights page.

Designed and printed to order in the USA. Machine wash cold, inside out, with like colors. Tumble dry low. Do not bleach or iron the design.

Common questions

Is help really part of independence? Nobody lives without it; disabled people just have it counted against them. The tee counts it the other way.

Would an independent living center order these? Centers do, for the hiring day. Every shirt is printed to order. Any mix of sizes, one order.

Which color do people pick? Bay and Blossom. Black for the parade.

How does the 1717 fit? True to size, relaxed body. Order your usual.

Wear it to: the hearing, the clinic, Disability Pride Month in July, the parking lot where someone took your spot.

Fabric and fit

Comfort Colors 1717: 6.1 oz 100 percent ring-spun cotton, garment-dyed and soft-washed so it feels broken in from the first wear. Relaxed unisex fit, true to size, S to 4XL in eight colors. Double-needle stitching, no side seams, sewn-in label.

Measurements for every size are on the size and fit guide.

Printing and care

Printed to order in the USA, direct to garment: water-based ink goes into the fabric rather than sitting on top, so the print stays soft and does not crack or peel.

Machine wash cold, inside out. Tumble dry low or hang dry. Do not iron the print. More on the fabric and care page.

Shipping and returns

Every shirt is made when you order it and ships from the USA. Current production and delivery times, and how returns work, are on the shipping and returns page. Ordering for a group? See group and bulk orders.
